Fleet18 Tuesday Night Races - September 2011

Please find below the results for the Blue Boar Beach Run that took place in breezy, but sunny weather last Saturday afternoon. Although not everybody finished and at least one of us almost got lost a good time was had by all. Thanks to Kim Cooper for the scoring!

Margarita Run - 2011

Yo Boardheads:

Please find below the results from the Margarita Run that took place this past weekend. The weather cooperated at least as far as the sunshine was concerned; the wind was a bit more flakey than in prior years though.

We had excellent support both on the beach and on the water this time. THANKS to Kim, Heather and Liz!

Kim Cooper sailed along (in Kaia Zimmer’s dinghy) with the Margarita cooler on board, at first ahead of the fleet, since she sailed directly from the start to the beach at the halfway point instead of accompanying the fleet on the round-trip through the bridges. Mark announced at the skippers meeting that anyone passing Kim during the race would have to stop by and empty a ‘Handycup’ of Margarita before continuing the race. This caused everybody to load up with Margarita during the race, but it also resulted in Kim falling further and further behind and eventually for the rest of us having to desperately wait for her (and, more importantly, the Margarita cooler) to arrive at the beach for an endless seeming amount of time.

Heather (Keith Walker’s lady friend) and her friend Liz did a fabulous job taking down the finish times both at the halfway point and at the finish line, on Liz’ iPhone. They even calculated the starting times for the return race thereby by-passing the notoriously error-prone manual calculation by Margarita-impaired fellow competitors (traditionally Mark Zimmer and myself).

 Although Mark Zimmer and I frequently traded the lead during the race, I once again fell behind before the last bend in the course and failed to beat him to the beach at the halfway point. Bummer! However I more than made up for that on the return trip, but still was far from being able to catch up with Owain and Kris who crossed the finish line first (CONGRATS!), over 15 min (!) ahead of Owain who finished in second place.

 Hope to see many of you at the Fleet 18 Christmas Party and, if not then, at the Blue Boar Beach Run in the spring.
